Are girls really the mirror queen ? Even guys in my school do bring mirrors to school. Does look really seem important? How will the average looking feel when they are being insulted for ugliness?
Physical ugliness is not a handicap to a person with charming personalities. If an ugly person cultivates the virture of compassionates love will show in so many winning ways – serenity, radiance, kindness and gentleness. This kind of attractiveness will easily compensate for any shortcomings in appearance. By compassion, a handsome person wit airs or conceit, will look very unappealing and repulsive. Inner charm is the real beauty. It has a special quality and attractiveness.

Last Year September retreat, Mr. Eng gave us a talk on ‘Rebirth’. However, I did not pay attention as I was very tired. When we were packing up, I asked Zhen Feng a few questions and I also found out the answers myself… …
Q: where does a man come from and where is he going?
A: When we die, the mind, with all the tendencies, preferences, abilities and characteristics that have been developed and conditioned in this life, will re –establish in the the fertilized egg. Thus the individual grows, is reborn and develops a personality conditioned both by the mental characteristics that have been carried over by the environment. The personality will change and be modified by conscious effort and conditioning factors like education, parental influence and society and once again at death, re-establish itself in a new fertilized egg. This process of dying and being reborn will continue until the conditions that cause it, craving and ignorance, cease. When they do, instead of being reborn, the mind attains a state called Nivarna and this is the ultimate goal of Buddhism and the purpose of life.
Q: How does the mind go from one body to another?
A: Think of it, being like radio waves. The radio waves, which are not made up of words and music but energy at different frequencies, are transmitted, travels through space, arte attracted to and picked up by the receiver from where they are broadcast as words and music. It is the same with the mind. At death, mental energy travels through space, is attracted to and picked up by the fertilized egg. As the embryo grows, it centers itself in the brain from where it later “broadcast” itself as the new personalities.

Moggallana Pulau Ubin's Trip!
Played a game over at the arcade while waiting for Forester!
We took a bus over to Changi Jetty and that's the time when we saw the President Nathan. :)
We took a boat over to Pulau Ubin!
It was raining so heavy!!
SO! We played Chapteh in the jetty. XD !
We are the center of attention of everyone in the Jetty. Cool eh!!~
Everyone was waiting for the arrival of FORESTER! :)
Finally, he came!

In the world, there are more than 100,000 sucessful businessman making deals daily. There are a few examples, the first one is Prime Minister Lee Hsein Long’s wife, Wu Jing, chairman of Temasek group, the most famous is of course the mentors in SBM Youth, Matt(Liang Sian) and Mr Cool(Wen Cai) who are doing well in local and also internationally.
However, what makes them successful? The answer is failures. Failures are the pillars of success. To learn from our failures is to achieve success.Never to have failed is never to have won. Unless we experience failure and its bitterness, we would never appreciate the sweetness of victory. It becomes merely a turn of events that is of little or no interests. Failures not only help us to succeed, they have make us energetic, enthusiastic and rich in, experiences.

A summary for what AngHwee had taught us yesterday.
1. Just keep in mind that you might die today
2. Your time is decreasing from the start
3. Your spiritual cultivation is not high yet
So, if you are not thinking that you might die today, you will continue taking your life for granted which resulted that when it just striked to you that you might die today, it cause horror. For those people who had very high spiritual cultivation, they just look as death lightly unlike those people who had otherwise. Keep in mind that we might die today. Maybe, if we walked out of the building, we might just get an accident or what so ever. We never know. So, do good from today onwards, gained more good merits and good karma so as to substain a better realm next life. :)

For most people, death is an unwelcome event. With so many cravings to be satisfied, the business of living in spite of enormous suffering is never quite finished. People feel more comfortable with the illusion of happiness than with the reality of death. If they have to think about it at all, it only has a slot at the 11th hour.
Attachment to worldly life creates a fear of death, but the truth is that all life is nothing but suffering. Death is natural and inevitable. It is not half as frightening as the thought of dying itself. The mind has an ability of its own to create and to stretch phantom images of death. The reason is that a mind, which is not trained to see life with all its impermanence and unsastisfactoriness, is likely to cling to illusions just as a drowning man willing to cling to a straw.
It creates uneasiness even for those who pray fervently to an imaginary supernatural being for forgiveness and a place in heaven, when life seems hopeless. Of course, the fear of death is a manifestation of instinctive self- preservation, but there is a way to overcome that fear. Do some selfless service for the welfare of others to gain hope and confidence in the next life. Altruism purges all selfish attachments.
Purity of the mind and detachment from worldly things will ensure a happy parting from this world. It is the constant contemplation on death to understand the impermanence of life and the wisdom to correct the wrong way of living that take the fear out of death. Strengthen the mind to face the facts and realities of life. Avoid unrealistic and impracticable ambitions. Develop self – confidence. Then you will be more relaxed in overcoming your difficulties in life.

Fears and worries are born of the imaginings of a mind that is influenced by worldly conditions. They are rooted in a craving and attachment. In fact, life is like a motion picture in which everything is constantly moving and changing. Nothing in this world is permanent or still. Those who are youthful and strong have fear of dying young. Those who are old and suffering worry about living too long. In between these two are those who crave for merriment all year round.
Joyful expectations of the pleasant seem to pass off too quickly. Fearful expectations of the unpleasant create anxieties that do not seem to go way. Such feelings are natural. Such ups and downs of life play with an illusion self or ego, like a puppet on a string, but the mind is supreme unto itself .
The training of the mind, otherwise known as mental culture, is the first step towards training mental unrest. The Buddha had explained,
" From cravings spring grief,
from craving springs fear,
For him who is wholly free from cravings,
There is no grief, much less fear ”

Luck. What exactly on earth is that? Who can explain that? Actually, even i , also thought that Luck is present around us. Many people prayed hard for Lady Luck during exams or even for lucky draws. However, who on earth can describe or explain what is luck?
The dictionary defines luck as 'believing that whatever happens, either good or bad, to a person in the course of events is due to chance, fate or fortune.'The Buddha denied this belief completely. Everything that happens has a specific cause and there must be some relationships between the cause and the effect. But no relationship can be found wearing a piece of paper with words written on it and being rich or passing examinations.
Buddhism teaches that whatever happens does so because of a cause or causes and not due to luck, chance or fate. People who are interested in luck are always trying to get something- usually more money and wealth. The Buddha teaches us that it is far more important to develop our hearts and minds.

Happy New Year!
It's 2007. A new year and a new beginning. There had been ups and downs during this period and we've been through it. We're heading for our 2nd anniversary as a Moggallana. No matter what happened, we must still be strong and united. Let us overcome any problems together as a house. Remember what is told when we're at SBM after the camp. We're still a family afterall. We must always solve everything together. If you are not happy with something, bring it up. We are family, remember?
"We're a family. No matter what things are happening, everyone knows. But no matter whatever happened, things will still make up as what it supposed to be. "
It's going to be our big big year next year. Most of us are going for our N level and O level. Please take good care for the rest of our house. We'll still be there. Let's us strive for our achievement in our exams. *Jiayou! Jiayou! Jiayou!*
